Acupuncture & Fertility
TCM deals with the body energetically; for instance sufficient Kidney
Qi is necessary to conceive and a smooth flowing of Liver Qi is needed
to regulate the menstrual cycle. Imbalances in the body’s Qi can
lead to period problems, PCOS, hormone irregularities and problems conceiving.
Acupuncture is able to reduce anxiety and stress
levels-implantation of an embryo occurs more readily in a relaxed uterus.
Research has shown that acupuncture treatment can
increase the success rates of IVF.
Acupuncture can also help alleviate any side-effects
from fertility drugs and help to normalise hormone levels.
There is no risk with having acupuncture during
fertility treatment. Other than tiredness or occasional bruising, there
are no side-effects.
I have undertaken additional and specific training about treating sub-fertility
and am part of the Zita West Affiliated Acupuncture Network. Discounts
on Zita West products and/or services can be given to my clients.
Embryo Transfer
Research showed that acupuncture given as soon as possible before and
after embryo transfer can improve success. It is also advisable to have
some treatment during the ‘2 week wait’ following transfer
especially if particularly anxious.
Acupuncture & Pregnancy
It is safe to have acupuncture whilst pregnant, e.g. to help maintain
a healthy pregnancy, reduce morning sickness or prepare the uterus and
cervix for labour.
